Cape Town – Cape Peninsula

Distance: 170km / 105 miles

After collecting the motorbikes and completing the necessary paperwork, we ride the entire Cape Peninsula, southwards through the coastal towns of Muizenberg, Fish Hoek and Simonstown stopping for a dockside lunch in Kalk Bay along the way. The Cape Point Nature Reserve, Misty Cliffs and Chapmans Peak will astound you with their beauty. The last leg of the route takes you along the Atlantic Seaboard, from Lllandudno, through Camps Bay and Sea Point and a sunset ride up Signal Hill. Dinner will be at the V&A Waterfront.

Cape Town to Montagu

Distance: 250km / 150 miles

We take a relaxed breakfast at the hotel before taking the first part of the route through the Cape Winelands countryside to Stellenbosch which leads to a spectacular section that meanders up and over the Nek to the former French Huguenot town of Franschhoek. It’s time for coffee, tea and a menagerie of cakes for those with a sweet tooth. After our pit stop we ride the sweeping curves of Franschhoek Pass to Theewaterskloof Dam – the first of many spectacular mountain passes! Lunch will be in Robertson at the wine farm of The Four Cousins and some wine tasting for the pillions – sorry riders!. From Robertson it’s a short but scenic ride to Montagu where the afternoon is spent at the lodge pool before dinner in the village.

Montagu to Prince Albert

Distance: 250km / 155 miles

After breakfast at the lodge, we continue along the famous Route 62 with rest stops at “Ronnies Sex Shop” (an interesting watering hole the name born from a practical joke that exists four decades later) and the Karoo town of Barrydale. The road bisects the Klein Karoo with its unique landscapes and mountain ridges, keep an eye out for ostriches along the way. From Oudtshoorn we continue eastwards to the hamlet of De Rust where we then ride up the incredible Meiringspoort Pass. The road cuts through the mountainous canyons before expelling into the open Karoo and a gentle ride to Prince Albert where we stay for the night. Dinner is a traditional South African Braai (BBQ) around an open fire and under the African sky.

Prince Albert to Addo National Park

Distance: 350km / 200 miles

After a hearty breakfast we continue along Route 62 and the Klein Karoo through the villages of Willowmore, Steytlerville and Kirkwood before arriving at the lodge accommodation on the boundary of the Addo Elephant National Park in time to freshen up before an evening game drive in the park. The Addo is home to the Big 5 so hopefully an opportunity to tick off the list, Elephant, Lion, Buffalo, Rhino and Leopard! Dinner is served in the boma again under a star littered sky.

Addo National Park to St Francis Bay

Distance: 200km / 120 miles

For early risers there is an option to add an additional game drive to the booking*. After a leisurely breakfast we make a later start, leaving Addo and riding through the minor roads of the farming region to the national road near Port Elizabeth. From Port Elizabeth we continue along the scenic route of the R102 to Humansdorp which leads us to the seaside resort of St Francis Bay, an idyllic coastal town referred to as ‘little Venice’, famed for its white walled thatched homes that sit astride a network of man-made canals and waterways. Accommodation for the night is in a beautiful beach house where we take an evening boat ride through the canals couple with sunset drinks on the beach followed by dinner at one of the local restaurants.

St Francis Bay to Knysna

Distance: 230km / 140 miles

We leave St Francis Bay along the road that leads us on a direct ride to the seaside playground of Plettenberg Bay commonly referred to as “Plett’. We take lunch on the Lookout Deck that is famous for its gastronomic seafood splendour. After lunch we continue along the N2 through the heart of the Garden Route, to our hotel accommodation and dinner in the beautiful waterfront area of the Knysna Quays, famous for its Oysters!

Knysna to Oudtshoorn

Distance: 220km / 130 miles

We spend the morning in Knysna, where we will arrange a boat cruise on the estuary and to the Knysna Heads or simply take time to explore the town. We jump back on the bikes continuing along the Garden Route to Sedgefield and on to George whereafter we climb the Montagu Pass up the mini escarpment to the Klein Karoo. We arrive in Oudtshoorn and take an early evening guided tour into the 20 million year old Cango Caves, a series of hidden chambers cut deep into a thick limestone rock layer whereafter we take dinner back at our lodge accommodation.

Oudtshoorn to Swellendam

Distance: 250km / 155 miles

From Oudtshoorn we continue along Route 62 and back to Barrydale for a light lunch. From Barrydale to our overnight in Swellendam we drop down the sweeping tar road of the 16km Tradouw Pass, one of the most scenic in the Western Cape and one to savour. Accommodation is at a beautiful country lodge with dinner at a restaurant in an old Cape Dutch farmhouse voted one of the best in South Africa.

Swellendam to Hermanus

Distance: 240km / 145 miles

From Swellendam we head coastwards to the most Southern tip of Africa at L’Agulhas, where the Atlantic and Indian oceans meet. Long undulating roads rise and fall through the vast open farmlands all the way to the coastline. Lunch will be at a seafood café in the seaside village of Struisbaai. The afternoon ride to our overnight accommodation in Hermanus snakes along the dramatic coastline. Dinner is at one of the many restaurants on the beachfront where we will keep an eye out for whales in the bay, famed as one of the best whale watching spots in South Africa.

Hermanus to Cape Town

Distance: 200km / 120 miles

Leaving Hermanus after breakfast we stay on the coastal road that hugs the water’s edge all the way to Gordons Bay, after a brief stretch on the national road we turn back onto the coastal road and ride mere metres from the crashing waves to the seaside town of Muizenberg for lunch. After lunch we return the bikes and stay at the same Cape Town city hotel. We will host a farewell dinner at the V&A Waterfront.
