Tread Moto Co was born out of two great passions: riding motorcycles and organising exceptional holidays for clients.
I have a passion for bikes and have been lucky enough to ride in some incredible biking destinations, including Namibia, South Africa, the Alps and of course across the United States.
Tread is a division of Lusso, one of the UK’s leading luxury tour operators. I’ve always believed people should demand more from a travel company. Handpicked hotels in the best locations? Of course. The highest levels of personal service? Naturally. Full financial protection for your holiday? Absolutely. When people book a holiday with Lusso, they naturally expect every part of their trip to be expertly organised, from the flights and airport transfers to the best hotel rooms, most interesting excursions and most knowledgeable private guides
As a biker, however, I struggled to find a motorcycle tour company that offered the same end-to-end service, including flights and pre and post tour holiday arrangements. At least not with the same levels of attention to detail and customer focus.
Myself, Tim and Ross saw the potential to create a touring brand for bikers – fusing the experience gathered over 15 years of arranging thousands of luxury tailor made holidays with vast experience in biking and motorcycling holidays. Tim has 25 years’ experience running motorcycle holidays, both through his own companies Big Rock Bike Holidays and The Lost Adventure, and directly for EagleRider while Ross has decades of experience in expedition riding predominantly across the Southern African region.
By combining our knowledge of bike touring and tailor made holidays, we were able to create Tread – a true one-stop-shop for riders looking to combine the best bike tours out there with the destination knowledge, customer service and financial protection of a luxury tour operator.
Tim has been running motorcycle holidays for a quarter of a century. His first company, Big Rock Bike Holidays, took thousands of customers to World Superbike and MotoGP races and on riding holidays all around the globe. His second, The Lost Adventure, was a distillation of everything he learned on the roads and racing paddocks of the world. His lasting relationships with premier companies like the Suzuki MotoGP team, Suzuki Alstare WSBK, Corona, SBK International and EagleRider speak volumes about his integrity and ability.
He’s ridden thousands of miles across the US and having weighed the pros and cons of many a tour company, firmly believes that EagleRider are the best. His knowledge of their tours is second to none, and his passion for helping riders to realise their dreams is as ardent now as it was 25 years ago.
Since his earliest years Ross has straddled a motorcycle. From junior motocross tracks to the Super Bowl of South African motocross at Sun City, Ross has ridden with and against the best in Africa. After almost 20 years of motocross he made the obvious step into the world of enduro riding, only retiring from the helter-skelter of competitive racing after completing four Roof-of-Africa races and a plethora of desert races in Namibia. The launch of the BMW GS1150 in 1999 opened new motorcycling experiences for Ross – the unlimited horizons of adventure riding.
Since the early 2000s Ross has traversed the length and breadth of Africa, Europe and the USA. In 2017 he and his wife completed a Cape Town (South Africa) to Noord Kaap (Norway) journey in their trusty Land Rover Defender, whereafter he was inundated with requests to guide similar adventures in Africa. This led to his development of African Frontiers, a bespoke adventure travel business that allows guests to experience Africa and all it can throw at you by motorcycle and 4x4 vehicle. The Covid pandemic may have brought a hiatus to touring in southern Africa, but it afforded Ross the time to start developing an Africa programme for us here at Tread – one we’re hugely excited to share with you soon.
James joined the travel industry in 2006 and runs two of the leading luxury travel companies in the UK, Worldwide Escapes and Lusso. Away from work his passion is biking and having extensively travelled both on and off two wheels around the world for over 15 years, the idea for Tread Moto Co was born, a travel brand built for bikers, by bikers, but backed up by the knowledge, resources, contacts and experience of one of the UK’s leading luxury travel companies. Whether it be soaking up the rolling blacktop as you cut through the canyons of Utah astride a “Milwaukee Eight” or the snaking back trye of an adventure bike as it furrows a path through the Namibian gravel that is your ultimate biking adventure, Tread aims to make those dreams a reality.
Behind the scenes we’re busy developing ever more motorcycle tours in some of the most exciting and spectacular corners of the world. Whether this is most iconic road journeys or the thrill of venturing off the beaten track with the reassurance of experienced back-up teams and high-quality accommodation.
We are always looking for more incredible tours that stick to tarmac roads, or for the more experienced adventure riders, tours that strike a balance between riding on tarmac and on gravel or dirt roads.
We can also customise a tour for just you and your group, tailored to your own tastes, interests, budget and timeframe.
We won’t stop with just South Africa and North America. Our little black book is bulging with contacts in all corners of the world. We’ll draw on these connections to offer motorcycle tours in a range of destinations, using our experience of operating in these countries to develop itineraries that combine leisure or adventure touring with the best, most characterful accommodation available en route. We’ll build in time for rest days and organise activities and cultural experiences that get right to the heart of the regions we’ll ride through.
We’re merely at the start of our journey. There’s a winding road ahead and we can’t wait to ride it. If you’d like to be informed of upcoming tours with Tread, then please join our mailing list. We’d be honoured to ride with you!
